Grenache
Wine
Swinney Vineyards Grenache is sourced from bush vines on the winery's Frankland River vineyard. This method of growing vines is labour intensive – and relatively rare in Western Australia – but the quality justifies the effort.
These untrellised vines are hand harvested. Most of the fruit is crushed and transferred via gravity to small open fermenters, with around 20% incorporated as whole bunches. A small percentage of Mourvèdre and/or Syrah is also added.
The juice is wild yeast fermented, followed by two weeks on skins. It is then pressed directly to large format seasoned French oak. After maturing for nearly a year, it is bottled unfined and only minimally filtered.
Crimson red, Swinney Vineyards Grenache is medium bodied with crunchy red and dark fruit flavours, a backbone of spicy minerality and fine structural tannins. Cellaring potential is seven years.
